Tomahawk Outfitters offers black bear hunts in the northeastern part of New Mexico. The bear hunts take place on private lands near Eagle Nest and also Raton, New Mexico. These are spot and stalk hunts with no dogs. New Mexico is known for its numerous colors of bear.
The Eagle Nest ranch is a high country ranch which consists of ponderosa pine, spruce, aspen and open meadows. The ranch elevation is from 8,500′ to 12,000′. The Raton ranch consists of pinion, juniper, oak brush, ponderosa pine and open meadows with numerous springs. Elevation for the Raton ranch is from 6,800′ to 9,000′. The areas that we hunt hold a good population of bear. These hunts are full-service hunts which include meals, lodging, guide service and game care.
Quotas
New Mexico operates under a zone management system for quotas for total number of bears that can be harvested and the number of female bears that can be harvested. So, you will need to book your bear hunts early because once the quota is reached, the season is closed.
